Inside the Simulation
Imagine pausing the operation to figure out the next task, here’s a sample menu interface within the VR headset as the student. They can choose to examine the patient, stabilize, or see messages for guidance. This allows the student to take their time in thinking about the next step. You can also imagine a higher-difficulty setting where the trainee can NOT pause the game, and perform tasks in real time.

Why Simulations?
Immediate Understanding
Enhance Retention
Improve Accessibility
Reduce costs
There is a plethora of empirical studies with focus groups under controlled environments that show a high increase in learning capabilities through VR training, opposed to traditional education without simulations.
Case Studies for VR
Studies have shown that VR simulations can reduce errors in pedicle screw placement by up to 53.7%, underscoring its potential in enhancing surgical accuracy.
In another study with 24 surgical residents, VR-trained surgeons completed 33% more key steps than controls, were 12° more accurate in component orientation, and were 18% faster.

After use of virtual reality scenarios by 39 participants in 2 UK hospitals, the mean trainee confidence in managing DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis, an emergency medical condition for patients with Type 1 Diabetes that need to be recognized and managed by non-specialist doctors), grew 95% (on an 8-point Likert scale).

What are the differences?
XR (Extended Reality) is the umbrella term for VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), and MR (Mixed Reality).
Simulations with
Monitor, Keyboard & Mouse
We also greatly advocate using a standard desktop/laptop, with the user playing the simulation via monitor with keyboard & mouse. People are already familiar with this setup so there might be a little less learning required. However, many people still find difficulty in navigating within modern 3D games (such as using the ASWD keys for navigation while using the mouse to look around). VR/AR relieves them of that difficulty by navigating with natural limbic motions. Either way, you can request for your simulation to be available in both VR and traditional desktop.
